Importance of a Trauma Center
Memorial Hospital is committed to keeping our patients close to home, making the Level III Trauma Verification so important. When minutes matter, our General Surgeons, Orthopedic Surgeons, Emergency Physicians, Anesthesia Providers, Nursing, Blood Bank, Lab and Radiology staff are all ready to provide the highest quality of trauma care to Dubois County and our surrounding communities. If injuries require a higher level of care, transfer agreements are in place to ensure prompt transfer to the most appropriate facility.
Our Level III Trauma Center includes:
- A comprehensive team of trauma-trained and board-certified trauma and orthopedic surgeons available 24/7
- Prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, and stabilization for critically injured patients
- A helipad for quick transport from our Trauma Center to a higher level Trauma Center, if necessary
- A comprehensive program to regularly review our care standards based on national standards published by the American College of Surgeons
- A program to evaluate the quality of care and provide ongoing staff education to ensure we continue to provide high-quality care to the community
Rapid Response Trauma Care
As Emergency Medical Services (EMS) brings you to Memorial Hospital, the emergency response team alerts our Trauma Care providers, so they will be ready as soon as you get here. Our EMS partners have knowledge and experience in trauma care, allowing them to make split-second, lifesaving decisions that prepare you to be cared for in our Level III Trauma Center.
Enhancing Your Care
At Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center you will get care based on the latest evidence-based guidelines. We participate in the Indiana State Trauma Care Committee (ISTCC), which promotes best practices in Trauma Care and Prevention. Your emergency medicine providers and trauma team receive continuing education about the best ways to treat serious injuries. As a verified Trauma Center the trauma care you receive extends from arrival in the Emergency Department, to your inpatient admission and, if needed, your stay in the Rehabilitation Unit.
