The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in CPR and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association, and any fees charged for such course do not represent income to the association.
The American Heart Association now offers online CPR courses at www.onlineAHA.org. Click on “Course Catalog” then select the needed course. Once the online portion is complete, print the certificate then call Memorial Hospital’s Health and Wellness staff at 812-996-2399 to schedule a skills evaluation to complete your certification. Skills evaluations are scheduled for 30 to 60 minutes and are offered for BLS for Health Care Providers, Heartsaver® CPR with AED, and Heartsaver® First Aid CPR with AED.
This four-hour American Heart Association course is designed for health care professionals or those required to be certified in two-person CPR. Skills taught include CPR, AED use, and relief of choking in adults, infants, and children. Participants must pass a written test and complete a skills evaluation in CPR and AED. (Can be taken as a class or online.)

Skills taught include CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking. Skills taught include CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking. In order to complete the course and receive a course completion card, participants must pass a written first aid test and successfully complete a skills evaluation in CPR and AED. (Can be taken as a class or online.)
Previously known as "Basic Medic First Aid", this program is a four-hour CPR/First Aid training program designed for the business and industry setting. The course emphasizes the development of skills in patient care. The topics covered include: Scene Assessment (SETUP); Assessing Responsiveness; Activating EMS; Assessing Airway, Breathing, and Circulation; Clearing and Protecting the Airway; Foreign Body Airway Obstruction; Rescue Breathing; One Rescuer CPR (adult victim); basic AED Operation; Chain of Survival; Control of Bleeding; Shock Management; Ongoing Assessment; Warning Signs of Illness; Mechanisms of Injury; Emergency Moves; and more. An optional Bloodborne Pathogens supplement is also available. Successful completion of the course means the student has acquired these skills, understands the dangers of an emergency scene and how to evaluate them, and understands the use of barriers to protect from body fluids and bloodborne diseases.
Previously known as "Medic First Aid Refresher", this 2-4 hour course is designed to review Adult First Aid and CPR AED skills for those previously certified in the basic course within the past two years. Skills reviewed include: Initial Assessment; Focus on Airway; Rescue Breathing; Choking Management; One Rescuer CPR; basic AED Operation; Control of Bleeding; Responsive Ill Persons; and Responsive Injured Persons.
This supplement is designed to provide students with the knowledge to reduce or eliminate the occupational risk of bloodborne pathogens. Students learn to develop behaviors to minimize their exposure to potentially infectious materials and to know what steps to take to reduce their risk of contracting a disease in the event of an exposure. This course can be offered alone, or as supplement to the basic Medic First Aid® course or the Refresher, adding one hour CPR classes.
