Everyone needs to remain vigilant when monitoring their heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Without regular heart health assessments, heart disease can manifest without any symptoms until a heart attack, stroke, or other cardiac event occurs. There are many treatments and medical programs that can help a patient strengthen their heart and vascular system and reduce the risk of future incidents. Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center provides our community with a close to home resource for comprehensive, high-quality heart health services.
Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center has received national accreditation in vascular services (ICAVL), echocardiography (ICAEL), and cardiac rehab services (AACVPR).
Over ninety percent of cases at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center are performed through the radial (wrist) approach allowing for faster recovery and minimizes bleeding issues. Heart and peripheral catheterization, angioplasty, and stent placement are performed in the department’s two Cath Labs. Angioplasty is the procedure used to insert and inflate a special balloon to open a clogged artery and improve blood flow to the heart. Stents (mesh tubes) are often used to keep open the blocked artery or peripheral vessel after angioplasty. The Cath Lab is also used for implanting pacemakers (to help the heart beat at a normal rate) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (to monitor the heart rhythm and return the heartbeat to a normal rhythm when necessary).
Diagnostic services provided include ultrasound of the heart (echocardiogram), carotid arteries, renal (kidney) and mesenteric vessels as well as veins of the legs and arms; Electroencephalogram (EEG); electrocardiogram (EKG); holter and MCOT monitoring; stress treadmill/recumbent bike test; nuclear stress test; pulmonary function, segmental pressure, and venous Doppler studies.
The Cardiac Rehabilitation program is designed to help patients understand coronary artery disease, risk factors, and lifestyle adjustments. In addition to an educational component, Cardiac Rehabilitation includes one hour of exercise three times per week for twelve weeks. During each exercise session, the staff monitors the patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, and EKG readings. Exercise therapy, supervised by cardiac rehabilitation nurses and exercise specialists, is provided on treadmills, stationary bicycles, and on the indoor walking track.
Cardiopulmonary Services is comprised of five clinical units including:
These units are staffed by qualified professionals who provide state-of-the-art care and excellent service for patients of all ages.
Arterial blood gases, spirometry screening, and pulmonary function tests are just a few of the services offered by the Pulmonary Lab's respiratory therapists.
Respiratory Home Care/Home Medical (DME) serves clients who need oxygen, CPAP/BIPAP/VPAP, or respiratory therapy treatments in the home setting, in addition to providing durable medical goods such as nebulizers, walkers, commodes, etc. The department offers a full line of interface/soft good needs for use with the CPAP/BIPAP/VPAP units. The respiratory therapists are well educated on interface alterations and assisting clients with compliance in the use of these devices.
