Memorial Hospital Announces Scholarship Recipients

Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center recently announced the recipients of scholarships:
- The first of two recipients of the Kathleen M. Tempel Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Kimberly Calvillo, the daughter of Serafin Sandoval and Valeria Camacho of Huntingburg. Kimberly is a senior at Southridge High School and plans to major in nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.
- The second Kathleen M. Tempel Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Katelyn Sander, the daughter of Mark and Tonya Sander of Jasper. Katelyn graduated from Jasper High School in 2018 and is majoring in nursing at the University of Evansville.
The following recipients received scholarships that are funded by grants from the Dubois County Community Foundation:
- St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship in the amount of $925 was awarded to Amanda Brewer, the daughter of Timothy and Cindy Brewer of Huntingburg. Amanda is a senior at Southridge High School and plans to major in biology. She hopes to become either an ophthalmologist or orthodontist.
- The Doris A. Ackerman and Family Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $975 was awarded to Sarah Pund, daughter of Kenneth and Christine Pund. Sarah graduated from Forest Park High School in 2017 and is currently enrolled in the nursing program at Indiana State University.
- The Mildred E. Schwinghammer Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,650 was awarded to Alicia Betz. Alicia is the daughter of Hilbert and Janice Betz of Celestine. Alicia graduated from Northeast Dubois High School in 2014 and is currently pursuing a nursing degree at Henderson Community College.
- The first of two recipients for the Mabel L. Kuebler Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,700 was awarded to Haley Schroeder, the daughter of Terry and Julie Schroeder of Jasper. Haley is a senior at Jasper High School and plans to major in nursing at Western Kentucky University.
- The second recipient of the Mabel L. Kuebler Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,700 was awarded to Morgan Tretter, daughter of Matthew and Heather Tretter of Ferdinand. Morgan graduated from Forest Park High School in 2018 and is currently majoring in nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.
Memorial Hospital Foundation also awarded six $1,000 scholarships to students from counties in the Memorial Hospital service areas:
- The first Daviess County recipient is Mackenzie Swartzentruber, the daughter of Paul and Terri Swartzentruber of Montgomery. Mackenzie is a senior at Barr-Reeve High School and plans to major in nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.
- The second Daviess County recipient is Karlena Wagler, the daughter of Merlin and Phyllis Wagler of Loogootee. Karlena is a senior at Barr-Reeve High School and plans to major in nursing at University of Southern Indiana.
- Dubois County recipient is Kimberly Calvillo, the daughter of Serafin Sandoval and Valeria Camacho of Huntingburg. Kimberly is a senior at Southridge High School and plans to major in nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.
- Martin County recipient is Skyler Padgett, daughter of Larry and Stacey Padgett of Loogootee. Skyler is a senior at Jasper High School and plans to major in dietetics at the University of Southern Indiana.
- Pike County recipient is Shelbi Pipes, daughter of David and Lori Pipes of Petersburg. Shelbi graduated from Pike Central High School in 2018 and is majoring in nursing at Vincennes University.
- Spencer County recipient is Meredith Balbach, daughter of John and Marian Balbach. Meredith graduated from Heritage Hills High School in 2015 and is currently majoring in biological sciences at Notre Dame University. She will enter medical school in the fall with the hope of becoming an oncologist, a physician who treats cancer patients.
The following scholarships were given in conjunction with the Health Occupation Science of America (HOSA) program at their breakfast on April 17, 2019.
- Memorial Hospital Foundation HOSA Grant in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Jadon Mehringer, the son of Andrew and Marianne Mehringer of Jasper. Jadon is a senior at Jasper High School and will attend Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) this fall. He plans to major in exercise science with the goal of becoming a physical therapist.
- Betty J. Hoffman Scholarship in the amount of $4,000 was awarded to Kyle Hedinger, the son of Paul and Annette Hedinger. Kyle is a senior at Jasper High School and plans to study pre-med/medical research at Hanover College.
